A medium-sized, spreading tree with erect branches, similar to the five-finger. Leaves may have 3 to 9 leaflets, which are thin and soft to the touch with sharply serrated margins. Tiny greenish-white flowers in summer. Purple berries are an important food source for birds and appear in autumn. Evergreen. Hardy.
