Corylus avellana x Tuber borchii
Fast-growing, usually grown as a tree with a single trunk. Grows best in sheltered areas with fertile soil and consistent moisture levels. All varieties require cross-pollination in order to produce nuts. Hardy. Inoculated with the Bianchetto Truffle (Tuber borchii).
The Bianchetto Truffle or Little White Truffle is grown for its excellent aroma and flavour. Highly variable. Grows to 5cm or more in diameter, with smooth skin and a pale-yellow to reddish-brown appearance. Prefers sandy limestone soils, and associates with a variety of host trees, including oaks, hazels, and conifers. Harvest is typically from Winter to Spring.
