Quercus cerris x Tuber borchii

Turkey Oak - Bianchetto Truffle

Broad, open form. Vigourous once established. Suitable for timber or mixed shelter. Hardy; tolerates dry and exposed sites. Inoculated with the Bianchetto Truffle (Tuber borchii).

The Bianchetto Truffle or Little White Truffle is grown for its excellent aroma and flavour. Highly variable. Grows to 5cm or more in diameter, with smooth skin and a pale-yellow to reddish-brown appearance. Prefers sandy limestone soils, and associates with a variety of host trees, including oaks, hazels, and conifers. Harvest is typically from winter to spring.

Most of our current crop has already been allocated, however we are taking expressions of interest for the remaining 2027 supply. To discuss availability, please contact truffles@southernwoods.co.nz.

We strongly recommend proper site preparation and prior-research before planting our truffle inoculated trees. For more information click here.

How does shipping work?

Freight is calculated automatically at checkout for smaller orders. For bulkier consignments, we’ll be back in touch to confirm a freight price. See our Shipping Information for more details.

North Island Customers: Shipping costs can be significant (and sometimes exceed the plant value), so combining items into a larger order helps keep it cost-effective.
