Metrosideros excelsa ‘Maungapiko’

A hybrid of Southern Rata and Pōhutukawa, this selection offers the compact foliage of Southern Rata combined with the bold, vibrant flowering of Pōhutukawa.

It provides improved frost tolerance compared with standard Pohutukawa, although it still performs best in a warm, sheltered position. A native, evergreen, and relatively slow-growing option that suits feature planting and coastal-inspired landscapes.
