A range of deciduous shrubs with large, attractive flowers in shades of red, white, blue and lime green. All prefer moist shady sites although tolerate sunny sites with sufficient moisture. Use Yates Hydrangea blueing and pinking tonic to correct colour. Prune in winter to keep compact. Deciduous. Hardy.

Popular red varieties include 'Merville Sanguine' and 'Piamina'. Popular blue varieties include 'Blaumeise',  'Flowermaster Blue' and the purple 'Merritts Supreme'. Popular white varieties include 'Annabelle', 'Bridal Bouquet' and 'Snowball'. Hydrangea petiolaris is a climber.
