Corylus avellana x Tuber aestivum
A fast-growing plant, normally grown as a single trunk tree. It grows best in sheltered areas with fertile soil and consistent moisture levels. Tolerant of cold temperatures. All varieties require cross-pollination in order to produce nuts. Our seedlings stem from a mixed orchard with the varieties Alexandra, MDB & Whiteheart. Inoculated with the Burgundy Truffle (T.aestivum).
Tuber aestivum, Tuber uncinatum, Burgundy Truffle and Summer truffle is one and the same truffle. They grow mainly on oak trees and can be found from late spring until autumn. The Burgundy truffle has excellent gastronomic qualities and it is used fresh in haute-cuisine, but can also be bottled. Its aroma is intensive with a taste reminiscent of hazelnut, maybe not quite in the same league as the more famous black truffle (T.melanosporum) but it is much easier to grow.
We strongly recommend proper site preparation and prior-research before planting our truffle inoculated trees, click here for more information.
