Black Alder (Alnus glutinosa)

ADVANCED GRADE!!

Grows best in moist or wet soils. This tree is deep-rooted and nitrogen-fixing. It tolerates salt winds, wet clays and marshlands. The timber is suitable for furniture and fuel-wood. Cold-hardy and deciduous. Plant at 1.5 - 4m spacings for shelter, depending on what you're planting underneath.

 

We currently have two great OG (open ground) grade of Black alder available at a height of 1.5 - 2m, and some at 2m+. These are fabulous grades, both for shelter planting, or amenity and shade.

1.5 - 2m Grade: Buy 10 or more for $9.95ea, or buy 100+ trees and pay only $7.95ea. Normally up to $14.95 each!!

2m+ Grade: Buy 10 or more for $12.95ea, or 100+ trees for $10.95ea. Usually up to $17.95ea!

 

Red Alder (Alnus rubra)

ADVANCED GRADE!

Considered the most attractive alder, it prefers a moist, fertile site on river banks and in gullies. Forms a tall, open shelter belt. This trees has hardwood timber, and a shallow, spreading root system. It occurs naturally in association with Douglas Fir. It is cold-hardy and deciduous. Space at 2 - 4m for shelter, depending on what you're planting underneath. Maximum height of approximately 25m, with a spread of 6m.
