ADVANCED GRADE!! Grows best in moist or wet soils. This tree is deep-rooted and nitrogen-fixing. It tolerates salt winds, wet clays and marshlands. The timber is suitable for furniture and fuel-wood. Cold-hardy and deciduous. Plant at 1.5 - 4m spacings for shelter, depending on what you're planting underneath.
We currently have two great OG (open ground) grade of Black alder available at a height of 1.5 - 2m, and some at 2m+. ADVANCED GRADE! Considered the most attractive alder, it prefers a moist, fertile site on river banks and in gullies. Forms a tall, open shelter belt. This trees has hardwood timber, and a shallow, spreading root system. It occurs naturally in association with Douglas Fir. It is cold-hardy and deciduous. Space at 2 - 4m for shelter, depending on what you're planting underneath. Maximum height of approximately 25m, with a spread of 6m.
